  • Seven kinds of surface textures for coarse aggregates were measured directly by using laser profilometer.The fractal traits of surface textures were analyzed by using structure function method.The roughness, shape and gradient of each surface texture were synthetically evaluated by using characteristic roughness.Finally, the influence of characteristic roughness on the performance of asphalt mixture was inspected.Analysis result indicates that the surface texture of coarse aggregate behaves fractal trait in a definite scope.Characteristic roughness has remarkable linear correlation with the ratio of the dynamic stability to the freeze-thaw tensile strength for asphalt mixture.Its high-temperature rutting resistance, resistance to water damage and low-temperature anti-cracking performance could be improved with the increase of characteristic roughness.
