Statistics analysis on vehicle flow starting wave speed of Zhoujiazui road

In this paper, it is proved that the vehicle flow starting wave speed distribution in green light period at a plane intersection satisfies Poisson assumption as well as a normal assumption by actual observations and statistics analysis, and the Poisson assumption is better agreement with the observation data. It is also shown that with the increase of the vehicle flow queue length the starting wave speed will increase as a negative exponent function under the condition of Zhoujiazui road, which is obviously different from the roads in which vehicles run at low speed and together with bicycles. According to these results, it is proposed that the traffic behavior parameter in the traffic fluid dynamics model may be value about 2.5 in case of modeling of the expressway traffic procedures.
