The journal is a leading academic publication in the field of transportation engineering, with all members of the Traffic and Transportation Engineering Discipline Appraisal Group of the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council, China serving on its Editorial Board.

Aims and Scope: To build on the integrated transport framework, serve the first-level discipline of traffic and transportation engineering, and promote the exchange and application of research findings in this field.

The journal was Launched in 2001, and has been indexed in the Ei Compendex database since 2004. It was published quarterly until 2007, when it became a bimonthly journal, and in 2026 it changed to a monthly publication. The journal publishes academic papers and reviews covering railway transport, highway transport, aviation transportation, waterway transportation, pipeline transportation, and related fields.

The journal covers, but is not limited to, the following areas:

(1) Transportation Infrastructure Engineering, including: design, construction, condition monitoring, operation and maintenance, and resilience enhancement of roads and railway engineering; high‑speed railway tracks, subgrades, pavements/airport runways, bridges, tunnels, geotechnical works, ports and wharves, waterways, high‑speed maglev tracks/pipelines, gas/liquid transport pipelines, and other transport infrastructure.

(2) Vehicle Operation Engineering, including: structural design, safety theory, intelligent design, new manufacturing processes, new methods, new theories, and new materials for vehicles such as high‑speed railway/metro/maglev trains, automobiles, aircraft, low‑altitude aircraft, extraterrestrial transport equipment, ships, and naval vessels; key technologies for collaborative operation of multiple transport vehicles.

(3) Transportation Planning and Management, including: three‑dimensional comprehensive transport networks, transport hubs, stations and depots, planning and layout of road/transport networks and their capacity, maritime, land and air transport development strategies, multimodal transport, modern logistics, and equipment.

(4) Traffic Information and Control, including: motion control theories, methods, modeling and simulation, navigation and communication, and intelligent control technologies for transport vehicles.

(5) Traffic Safety and Environment, including: safety design, testing, simulation, green and low‑carbon technologies, and energy‑saving and emission‑reduction technologies for transport infrastructure and vehicles.

Impact

According to the 2025 Edition of the Chinese Journal Citation Report (Core Edition), the journal‘s core impact factor is 1.653, and its comprehensive evaluation score has ranked first for several consecutive years among 11 journals in transportation engineering in China. According to the Annual Report on Chinese Academic Journal Impact Factors (2025 Edition), its composite impact factor is 3.410 and its five‑year impact factor is 5.645, ranking fifth among 169 journals in China’s transportation engineering discipline.

Publishing timeline

Initial review takes 1–2 weeks; each round of external peer review takes 1–2 months; the acceptance timeline is approximately 2–5 months. Once accepted, all manuscripts can be published online first on CNKI after revision.
